Mexique is an amazing restaurant that features Mexican and French cuisine. I've been wanting to check this place out for a long time and finally got a change to do so this past weekend, so here goes my 100th review! We came here for brunch on Saturday and were seated right away. I was surprised by how empty it was but wasn't gonna complain. The brunch menu featured mostly Mexican dishes like chilaquiles and enchiladas, but there were also a couple of more American/French options like the duck waffles and mussels in white wine. I ordered the Cazuela de Jaiba which included two crab cakes on top of eggs, potatoes, veggies, and a chipotle hollandaise sauce. I tried the chicken enchiladas and duck waffles as well which were both delicious. I didn't get the chance to take pictures of the other dishes, but every dish was beautifully plated. Mexique has a very classic vibe with the white tablecloths and linens, but the food is definitely creative and innovative. This is now one of my favorite brunch spots in Chicago, and I can't wait to come back.

The place: Sexy, good date potential, went on a friend date that was super fun (and delicious). Service was great, and I love when they bring you a little amuse bouche - in this instance it was a velvety chicken pate. The taste: So much yum. The steak tartare with guacamole - divine. We shared the quesadillas negro, also delicious - the texture of the flour of the quesadilla reminded me of an empanada, and I dug it. We shared the sada with sunchokes - i preferred the sunchokes to the asada, but i'm not a huge meat eater. My face: Smiles all around, super full stomach. Came to around $60 a person with tax and tip. Looking forward to going back!

I love both French and Mexican cuisine and Mexique does a beautiful job of meshing the two. I came here with a friend to try the Restaurant Week Menu. We were greeted by exceptionally warm and friendly staff. The restaurant has a narrow layout and decor is very simple. The atmosphere was quiet which made for good conversation. I can't say enough about how beautiful the presentation of all the dishes were (take a look at the pics). You almost feel guilty eating the food because it feels like you're destroying a piece of art. Of the restaurant week menu my favorite dishes were the pork belly (soo tender and flavorful and enough different textures and colors to keep the dish interesting) and the shrimp ceviche. The arroz con leche (rice pudding) was delicious as well and unlike any version I'd had before. The chile relleno was our least favorite of the dishes as the flavor fell a little flat. I feel like the chile could've been cooked down a bit more and it would've benefited from a richer, more decadent filling. All in all, I did love this restaurant and would definitely be interested in returning to give the chef's tasting menu a try. Warning - if you have a hearty appetite this restaurant will probably not work for you as the servings are extremely small (appetizer and entrees were probably about 1/4 - 1/3 the size of your average restaurant), but if you're looking for a quality culinary experience this is definitely a place you want to check out.

What can I say other than this place is really exceptional food. We came for New year's Eve & had their 6 course chefs tasting. It was just the right amount of food to fill you up without weighing you down. Each course was as much a piece of art as it was a piece of a meal. All the food was so carefully thought out & the complexity of flavors and layers and textures was truly something to behold. There are a lot of truly great restaurants in Chicago, but this one could very well be the best. Service was good, setting was intimate. Even the chef was out mingling with us patrons & answering questions etc. A true fine dining experience. 5 stars.
